Paul suffered and was afflicted as a backdrop for the epic story of love, the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This mystery of the Good News — Christ in us — has been brought to us by messengers stewarding the Word of God, teaching it to us, just as we should be careful to grow others in maturity despite whatever affliction may come our way. We must be willing to suffer for the sake of Christ and his elect.
